Parging is a masonry technique used by plasterers to cover the surface of concrete walls. Exposed portions of your home's foundation walls which are visible above grade, are usually parged to provide protection for the poured concrete or block walls.
Additionally, parging can be observed on retaining walls, porch steps and structural elements - in particular those that have a Mediterranean or French Chateau style. Although it’s not specifically meant for waterproofing, parging does create somewhat of a water-resistant barrier to help your home remain dry.
Parging also helps to improve the energy efficiency of your house by sealing holes and leaks in your concrete walls as a result of off-gassing (expulsion of trapped air) while the foundation was curing. The style in which parging is done can be very similar to stucco, which results in a very neat finished appearance.
A skilled masonry craftsman makes the process of parging look quite simple, but it does require considerable practice and time to achieve great results.
Our parging experts use a specialized mortar or cement mixture with the proper adherents to ensure a durable bond and quality cure. It is a great way to lift the overall appearance of your personal residence or commercial space, so if you need parging done - give EDM Parging a call today!
